Newbie questions about vinyl printing/laminating

Hi guys,
OK a few questions.
I'm fairly new to the industry and new to America so here goes.
My interest is printing laminated vinyl decal for motocros bikes.
I have worked for a company managing opertions thus not dealing directly with any technical things.
I now want to start my own company on a small scale to start.
We used a 54" Roland Inkjet printer, hot laminator and vinyl cutter. We used convex vinyl and proshield laminate. When the laminator wasn't running perfectly we used to get air/marbling between the vinyl and laminate that I was never happy with.
I have some samples from other companies and they reverse print onto clear vinyl and then apply glue tape. Can anyone shed light on this process as I've never seen it done.
The package that seems suitable for the setup I want to start with is the Gerber Edge and their cutter.
What do you guys think?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'll put this in the vinyl section as well just incase this is in te wrong section.
Thanks.
