"Expect problems and eat them for breakfast."
--- Alfred A. Montapert
One of the toughest things to do while running a business is to stay motivated. So many obstacles and challenges can get in our way to limit our drive toward success. Yeah, it is difficult staying on game and is even doubly so when you have to keep your team members motivated as well.
"In motivating people, you've got to engage their minds and their hearts. I motivate people, I hope, by example - and perhaps by excitement, by having productive ideas to make others feel involved."
--- Rupert Murdoch
Since you are aware that your team members are watching you and studying how you respond to everyday challenges. If you lose your motivation, they tend to follow suit. Only when you muster all the gusto you can to stay on top of your game can you inspire those around you.
Learning to stay motivated takes time. It takes time to initiate a motivational program and stick to it. What is a motivational program? It is an on-purpose plan that you implement to intentionally focus on ways to keep yourself "up." Fortunately, there are many resources available for you to use. All it takes is reaching out for them, using and applying them.
"Poverty was the greatest motivating factor in my life."
--- Jimmy Dean
One optional resource is to take your own life experiences and use them as a motivational tool to be included in your motivational program. Recall the successes in your life and use them as springboards during those times in business when you need a boost. Try to remember the steps you took to overcome an obstacle or get through a rough patch. Some successful business people actually journal these successes so they can refer back to them when they need a jolt of motivation.
"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
-- C. S. Lewis
Another good inclusion of a motivational program is to jot down new set of goals. Often times, just writing out on paper a goal or dream will cause the juices to start flowing again and get one motivated to tackle any problem that comes their way. Focusing on what can be accomplished rather than the ditches in the road creates clear-headed thinking and that is when ideas are generated.
"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily." --- Zig Ziglar
Begin on your own motivational program today. Listen to motivational audio books, read biographies of successful business leaders, attend a motivational talk, or journal your own successes. Whatever method you use, be sure to stay at it. Embarking on your own motivational program not only helps to keep you in the game, it helps your team members to learn how to get and stay motivated as well. And motivation is the fuel that keeps your business engine thriving.
"To be wholly devoted to some intellectual exercise is to have succeeded in life."
--- Robert Louis Stevenson
