Keep the Momentum Going

"Success requires first expending ten units of effort to produce one unit of results. Your momentum will then produce ten units of results with each unit of effort."
      --- Charles Givens

The holidays are a great way to connect with friends and family and enjoy some needed time off. That is the good part of the celebration. The bad part is that it breaks up the momentum we had going into the new year. For those of us depending on suppliers and other needed vendors, the end of the year practically comes to a halt and needed provisions, needed for order fulfillment ceases for a couple of weeks.

There is a chance to keep the necessary momentum of your business going by kick-starting again what you had established before the holiday break. There are three key steps you can implement now so that you don't lose the necessary momentum.

"Always work hard. Intensity clarifies. It creates not only momentum, but also the pressure you need to feel either friction, or fulfillment."
      --- Marcus Buckingham

First, don't get down on yourself because you and your business lost the mojo. Remember that this is temporary and you will get back into your productive and profitable rhythm soon. Remind yourself the reasons for your business and then read again your mission and purpose statements. Believe that if you begin now putting in the hard work once again, the momentum will pick up.

"Most of life is routine - dull and grubby, but routine is the momentum that keeps a man going. If you wait for inspiration you'll be standing on the corner after the parade is a mile down the street."
      --- Ben Nicholas

Next, begin hustling… today! Don't put off until next week or the week after, like most other businesses, to jumpstart your momentum machine. Do something right now, even little somethings to get the ball rolling.

"Sliding headfirst is the safest way to get to the next base, I think, and the fastest. You don't lose your momentum, and there's one more important reason I slide headfirst, it gets my picture in the paper."
      --- Pete Rose

Finally, beginning planting seeds. Re-write your business plan, think of ways to add more value to your customers, seek out mentors, make a list of clients to approach, write your pitch, update your bio on social networks and company website, make a better newsletter, craft a strategy to sell to businesses outside your normal customer range, etc.

There is so many more things you can do. Be creative and come up with ways to get the momentum rolling. Even baby steps are helpful, but you must begin today.

"Momentum? Momentum is the next day's starting pitcher."
      --- Earl Weaver
