If your sales are not where you wanted or planned them to be at this time of year, maybe it is time to change your strategy. Take a look at how you are selling your products and services. If you are getting down about it, you are already headed in the wrong direction.

Did you hear the one about the lady who went to the grocery store? She picked out a broom, mop and some other cleaning products. She had a very angry attitude and complained the whole time she was waiting in line to cash out. When it was finally her turn, she told the cashier that it would probably be Christmas before she makes it home.
"I don't think so lady," said the male cashier. "With a good tail wind and a new broom, you should be home in a couple of hours."
We can all be witches sometimes. Think of yourself as a walking commercial for your company. Would you buy from you?

Take your mind out of the gutter; in other words, the ruts. Go away for a day, a few hours, whatever it takes to allow your mind to be childlike again. Take along some paper and a pencil and just let your mind wonder. I heard of a guy who takes off one day a month to work in a nursery. He gets down on the floor and plays with the children. He watches and listens. Some of his most creative sales ideas came to him from simply observing the imagination of children.

The "think positive" stuff of the '80s kind of just died. What a shame. There is a real connection between what your mind can conceive and what your body will believe and achieve. Try turning negative thoughts around. Your positive thoughts will provide many dividends. Be careful though. Many people who avoided you in the past may begin to like hanging around you.
"Instead of being concerned that you have no office, be concerned to think how you may fit yourself for office. Instead of being concerned that you are not known, see to the worthy of being known."
The products and services you provide to this great industry of ours may not reach the sales figures you had planned for, but don't give up. Start now plotting a new course toward the ends you wish to achieve.
Remember that your business plan is a guide for you to follow. If you don't reach the destination, then you alter the course and try again. Your plan should always be in a state of modification. A foundation and standard to be sure, but also one that bends and adapts.

Our system still works in this country. Even though many want to have a pot of gold handed to them, it is still the blood, sweat and tears that are rewarded. Hard work is still the only way to insure a successful business. Along with those and just as important is an enthusiastic, energetic and positive attitude.
