Work Hard, Be Happy

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
      --- Pele

It has to be said. Most people think it, but few put it into words - some folks are simply afraid of hard work. There, it is out in the open. You've seen them and so have I. In fact, it's unfortunate, but we both probably even hired them before. Those people who believe that things should be handed to them. That blisters are not part of the job description and neither is staying late, getting their hands dirty, and going above and beyond.

These are the folks who fear W.O.R.K. They simply can't comprehend that hard work is not only the key to success, but that it is also healthy. It provides food for the table and keeps the lights on, but it also keeps the blood flowing, increases energy levels, and contributes to a good night's sleep.

"Work hard, stay positive, and get up early. It's the best part of the day."
      --- George Allen, Sr.

Hard work built great countries, great institutions, highways, bridges, organizations and character. It increases intelligence and expands the mind for continual learning. Hard work also builds wonderful communities and non-profit and charitable organizations. It is the foundation for all things great.

"Work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive."
      --- Leah LaBelle

It can be difficult to communicate the importance of hard work to the team members in your business, but here are three tips you can implement today to get everyone on board the train of hard working.

First, don't hold back in your work. You built this business by working hard. Don't let up now. Continue in your passion to build something great and know that your team members are watching all the time.

"Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds."
      --- Gordon B. Hinckley

Next, reward those who really put forth the extra effort. Take them to lunch or take them and their family to dinner. Pay to have their car detailed or give them tickets to a ball game. Whatever you found to be something special to them, provide it for them. Let them know that you deeply appreciate their hard work.

"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."
      --- Earl Nightingale

Finally, instill in your team members the pleasures found after a hard day's work. Smile often and show them that you enjoy the work and they can too, but that there is also life after work. Show them how much sweeter life can be when they've given their best in their work. Let them taste not only the rewards you've given them, but the rewards of a job well done confirmed by a happy customer.
