"Business is never so healthy as when, like a chicken, it must do a certain amount of scratching around for what it gets."
--- Henry Ford
This COVID-19 virus really sucks! Of course, I don't need to tell you that. So many people are suffering from the disease itself and from the fallout of it-like those losing their jobs or losing business. A lot of good is coming from this though. For one, health care, grocery store, and a few other workers are finally being recognized for their hard work. Our society in the US would be in an even bigger mess without them.
But regarding the economy, it is the small business owners who are also real heroes. As many states begin the slow process to reopen and allow things to gradually get back to normal, (assuming that the old normal will be the new normal), it is you, the business owner or leader who brings the economy back to life. It is you who is responsible for providing goods and services to people who need them, and it is you who will eventually bring people back to work.
"Economic depression cannot be cured by legislative action or executive pronouncement. Economic wounds must be healed by the action of the cells of the economic body - the producers and consumers themselves."
--- Herbert Hoover
When we are allowed to go back to doing what we do best, the US and the world will see a difference in how we produce quality products for our customers. We may have taken a forced break for a few months, but that only gave us time to reflect, recharge, and renew.
"An organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage."
--- Jack Welch
Some small sign businesses have taken this time away from the daily grind to rethink their business strategy and prepare for when their state opens back up. They are like a horse in the chute at the start of the race. As soon as the governor or powers-to-be open up their segment of the economy, they are going to burst through the gate full stride, aiming for the finish line and the first place prize.
"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all."
--- Dale Carnegie
As the pandemic winds down, the heroes of the economy is going to be the business leaders who never gave up during these dreaded months. It is going to be these stick-it-out-through-thick-and-thin folks who may have been punched in the gut, but knew that they would never give in and never give up. They kept the pace, kept the rhythm going even though it looked very dim and even dark at times. And this is nothing new. Throughout history, the small businesses have saved the nation. It is the small business that keeps the economic engine running and therefore, YOU should be recognized for all that you do for the sake of your families, employees, their families, vendors and customers, and all the other lives your unstoppable determination and tenacity have positively impacted!
Thank you for never quitting!
"Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon."
--- Winston Churchill
