A Change in Attitude

Making decisions on your own is one of the responsibilities of being the person in charge. As head honcho, you may bask in the perks associated with leadership, but eventually, when the fun hits the fan or the buck makes a stop with you, it is time for action. You and only you have to make the call.

How can you handle the moments? The one key component found in all successful leaders and decision makers that keeps them holding onto their sanity when duty calls for them to make critical decisions, is positive thinking.

Since the world is full of the doomsayers and "the sky is falling" type of people, establishing and holding onto a positive mental attitude is essential to the success of your business. You have no room for influence from negative people in your life. There is enough to running a business without the whiners and complainers throwing obstacles your way.

Giving in to negative forces saps away precious energy and offers no profitable benefit to your company.

Holding the reins to your business places you in a position to positively impact the lives of others as well. Your actions, how you conduct business, is being observed by your teammates, your competition, and your vendors. Being the one who calms the storms in your business sends a signal throughout your company that a positive attitude is the only attitude the company will tolerate.

Make it a habit of being positive at all times, in work and at home. As motivational speaker and author, Brian Tracey once said, "When someone asks you how you are doing, simply say 'Great' or 'Wonderful.' Don't tell them your problems because 80% of the people you share them with don't care and the other 20% are kind of glad you have the problems anyway."

If you've been pretty pessimistic in the recent past, there is time to change. This cannot be a gradual change, but a full-blown, overnight conversion. Peers and teammates might not understand or know what to make of it because a change in attitude requires radical measures.

Starting today, do whatever it takes to increase your PMAI (Positive Mental Attitude Intensity). Check out CDs or books from the library and read or listen to several times. Make yourself see positive aspects of all of your business situations. Look for the positive in the people you work with, and with your customers. Make a strong effort to improve your attitude and think positive thoughts from the time you wake up and throughout the day, about your business and your life.
