Roland Introduces the Industry's First Wide Format Solvent Printer Under $20,000

Irvine, CA. April 2, 2002 -- Roland DGA Corporation today introduced the 54-inch SOLJET SJ-500 - the industry's first solvent printer under $20,000. It joins the 64-inch SJ-600 printer and the 54-inch SC-500 printer/cutter in Roland's growing SOLJET family.

The SOLJET is an industrial strength solvent device engineered with solid construction, clean lines and a powerful feed/control motor. It combines several Roland technologies - SOL INK, SOLJET Certified Media and ColorChoice® RIP software to provide a complete, factory-bundled solution for creating a variety of indoor and outdoor graphics.

Roland SOL INK (CMYKLcLm) has a unique, low-volatile solvent ink chemistry that allows signmakers to print photorealistic, outdoor graphics without having to purchase special ventilation or environmental equipment. In a non-toxic printing environment, signmakers can produce signs, banners and vehicle wraps that are water and UV resistant. SOL INK is also less expensive to run than traditional pigment ink.

SOLJET Certified Media (SCM) include a glossy scrim banner and four patent-pending vinyls from Avery Dennison - Easy to Apply premium cast vinyl, premium calendered vinyl with removable or permanent adhesive, and an economy calendered vinyl with permanent adhesive. Avery Dennison developed these specially treated, adhesive-backed vinyls exclusively for the Roland SOLJET. The SOLJET is also compatible with select Roland Performance Guaranteed Media, Piezo Certified Media and Proof Quality Media.

ColorChoice® is a true Adobe® PostScript®3(tm) multi-platform, hi-performance software application. It lets users print directly from their favorite Windows® and Macintosh® design applications. ColorChoice® has built-in, pre-calibrated ICC profiles for SOL INK and SOLJET Certified Media, providing signmakers with a completely integrated, factory solution for producing outdoor signage.
