Onyx Graphics Announces Onyx Proof Workflow Software for Color-Accurate Off-Press Digital Proofing

MIDVALE, Utah, Oct. 10, 2002 -- Onyx Graphics announces Onyx Proof workflow software, a package that enables users to generate color-accurate press proofs from supported ink jet or laser printers. Onyx Graphics teamed with Canon to demonstrate Onyx Proof software in Canon's booth at Graph Expo and Converting Expo 2002, October 6-9 at McCormick Place South in Chicago, Illinois.

Using widely accepted industry-standard ICC profiles to simulate digital or traditional color press output, Onyx Proof software gives printers the ability to provide color-accurate proofs without having to go on-press. Proofs can be printed from a variety of supported ink jet or laser printers, offering a predictable color-accurate hard copy representation of the final press output. Onyx Proof software supports printers from Canon, Epson, Hewlett Packard, Mimaki, Mutoh and Roland.

Onyx Proof software can speed the printing workflow by offering greater flexibility, faster approval turnarounds, and lower costs per proof. Print buyers and designers who rely on the proofing process to assess the aesthetics and color accuracy of the future printed piece can make any necessary changes upstream, and approve the print before the job is run, not while the press is idling.

Onyx Proof Software Features
Onyx Proof software offers the following features to speed the printing workflow:

  • Uses industry-standard ICC device profiles
  • Accurate and predictable color simulation of press output
  • Preflight, preview and color correction tools
  • Ability to turn off composite black
  • Print to hot folders with custom-configurable Quick Sets
  • Print directly from creative applications, either Windows-based or Macintosh
  • Automatic conversion of custom and common pre-defined spot colors
  • Includes auto-rotation and auto-cropping
  • Nesting of multiple jobs or multi-page jobs
  • RIP and print files simultaneously
  • Supports popular file formats including PostScript®, EPS, PDF, TIFF, TIFF/IT, PSD, Scitex CT, DCS 4 and 6-color separation, and more
  • Support for a wide variety of wide format printers
  • On-site installation, training and implementation support available

Demonstration at Graph Expo
At Graph Expo in Canon's booth #3272, Onyx Proof software printed to the recently announced Canon imagePROGRAF W2200 ink jet printer. The Canon imagePROGRAF W2200 six color desktop ink jet printer offers resolutions of up to 2,400 x 1,200 dpi, and a maximum paper size of 13 inches by 19 inches.

Onyx RIP-Queue: Powerful Basic Feature Set for Productive Workflows
Just like the market-leading Onyx PosterShop® color production software, Onyx Proof software is based on Onyx's award-winning color engine and powerful RIP engine. The Onyx RIP-Queue brings the strength of Onyx together with a user-friendly interface that is consistent across workflows. All Onyx workflow products include a spot color lookup table for popular spot color matching, using CIELAB values, in PostScript files. Custom spot colors can also be created. Media profiles are ICC-compliant, assuring users of color accuracy and consistency from any application, platform or file format. Custom media profiles can be created using Onyx's optional Profile Generator software. A redesigned user interface presents a user-friendly print queue, simplified workflow, job thumbnail and nesting previews, tiling and improved print controls. Onyx also drives the widest range of printers, and supports all popular file formats.

Availability and Pricing
Onyx Proof software is available for order now from authorized Onyx Proof software dealers. One Onyx Proof software license includes a driver for one ink jet or laser printer, specified at the time of order. Additional drivers may be purchased separately.
