GERBER MAXX™ 2 Thermal Transfer Printer Unveiled at USSC: Technical Improvements Enhance Company's Wide Format Capabilities
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Gerber Scientific Products Inc. today marked 20 years of ingenuity and market leadership with the debut of its latest large format thermal transfer imaging product, the GERBER MAXX 2.
Introduced to the nation's sign making industry at the United States Sign Council Show, December 5-7, 2002, Atlantic City Convention Center, the MAXX 2 is designed to succeed the GERBER MAXX wide format printer, which debuted in 1999. The new unit offers the versatility, ease-of-use and productivity of its predecessor yet incorporates technological enhancements to provide "higher-quality images and more reliable performance," said Scott Anthony, senior product manager, Gerber Scientific Products.
"Manufacturing and process improvements enable MAXX 2 to build upon the many attributes of the MAXX and our very first thermal transfer imaging device, the GERBER EDGE™ " he observed. "The result is a system that offers outstanding production efficiency and color/media matching via innovations such as the Intelligent Material Advance System (IMAS), which moves material through the unit by means of a magnet bar transport and vacuum suction; and SmartFoil™ Technology. SmartFoil automatically calculates the amount of MAXX COLOR™ foil remaining on a roll and prompts the user to replace the cassette if more of that color is required to complete a job."
Additional benefits include unattended operation, made possible by an automatic six-bay cassette storage and switching system, and automatic material alignment; media edge detection and steering to assure color-to-color accuracy; a 34-inch printing width; the ability to print using spot and process color foils; and instant outdoor durability without lamination.
"Our primary goal with the GERBER MAXX 2 was to make Gerberˇ¦s large format digital imaging technology as streamlined and seamless as possible for our customers," Anthony stated. "Thus, MAXX 2 is part of the Matched Technology System™ (MTS™) digital printing solution that includes OMEGA™ design and RIP software, MAXX COLOR thermal transfer foils, a growing variety of 36-inch unpunched MAXX READY vinyls and specialty media, and the ODYSSEY or FasTrack 1300 vinyl cutting plotters."
"MAXX 2 is the result of an extensive program to improve the manufacturability of the original MAXX," said Elaine A. Pullen, president, Gerber Scientific Products. "We are delighted to have achieved our goal and, in doing so, also have achieved an unprecedented level of print quality and reliability for wide format thermal imaging systems. We have raised the bar and further established our leadership position as a provider of graphic imaging systems. With its unique combination of durability, size, selection of spot colors and media, and system approach, the GERBER MAXX 2 is the reliable, safe, clean, and productive digital printing system for sign, screenprint and specialty graphics professionals."
She concluded, "In launching the MAXX 2, we are demonstrating a renewed commitment to customer service and to maintaining our leadership in thermal imaging systems technology. We believe the MAXX 2 represents an important breakthrough in wide format imaging with the unparalleled quality and reliability necessary to allow our customers to profit from their investment."
The GERBER MAXX 2 will begin shipping in first quarter 2003.
