Summa Announces Competitive Trade-in Promotion from Gerber EDGE and Roland ColorCAMM printers to Summa DC3

SEATTLE, WA May 1, 2003—Summa Inc., a leader in thermal transfer printing solutions, today announced a promotional trade-in program for Gerber EDGE and Roland ColorCAMM customers who want the convenience and reliability of thermal transfer printing combined with low-cost operation and totally automated print and cut capabilities. Upon purchasing a Summa DC3 from Summa or a Summa authorized dealer, U.S. customers can trade in their pre-owned EDGE, EDGE2 or ColorCAMM printer and receive a cash reimbursement of up to $10,000.

For more information on this trade-in program, visit www.summausa.com/tradeup

Summa DC3 is the first wide format thermal transfer printer to combine low-cost operation with totally integrated print and cut operation. Using durable resin ribbons, Summa DC3 is able to print on standard uncoated vinyls to produce outdoor durable images that are guaranteed to last three to five years without lamination.* And by simply adding a cut line to their graphic files, Summa DC3 customers can produce printed and contour cut graphics and labels automatically. The result is a labor saving solution that is capable of producing finished images that are ready to install in a single, automated process. And by eliminating the need for specialty coated vinyls and expensive over-laminates, Summa DC3 has a finished cost of goods that is often below that of other outdoor print-and-cut technologies.

Advantages of upgrading from Gerber EDGE/EDGE2
Summa DC3 saves EDGE customers time and money without sacrificing the performance of thermal transfer printing.

  • Wider Printing Delivering output up to 35.8 inches wide, Summa DC3 is more than three times the width of the EDGE. This enables EDGE customers to print most of their work without panel lines. And on larger jobs, the number of panel lines and individual panels that require precise manual alignment is reduced by a minimum of 66 percent.
  • More Automated Operation -- Summa DC3 increases customer productivity by automatically changing ribbons from an internal ribbon storage array, which holds up to six individual ribbon cassettes. This frees customers from manual ribbons changes, enabling them to maintain higher levels of production by printing while they’re performing other tasks or are away from their shop.
  • Easier, More Accurate Contour Cutting -- Summa DC3 provides easier and more accurate contour cutting by integrating the cut operation into the printer. This eliminates the need for customers to reregister their printed vinyl in a separate cutting device, which saves time and eliminates cutting inaccuracies that can occur when performing print and cut operations on separate machines.

Advantages of upgrading from Roland ColorCAMM
Summa DC3 significantly reduces ColorCAMM customers’ consumables costs¹ while preserving and extending the productivity and convenience of an integrated print and cut solution.
  • Lower Consumables Cost Summa DC3 increases customer profitability with resin ribbons that are far lower in cost than ColorCAMM ribbons, including cumbersome third-party refills for ColorCAMM cassettes. That makes every project more profitable and enables customers to compete for jobs where tight bidding would easily price ColorCAMM output out of the running.
  • Higher Production Throughput Summa DC3 delivers substantially faster printing, than ColorCAMM, which provides faster turnaround and the ability to print large jobs that simply wouldn’t be practical with ColorCAMM. Summa DC3 also provides longer unattended print runs than ColorCAMM by utilizing much larger ribbons capable of printing a minimum of 369 square feet.
  • Wider, Longer Printing Summa DC3 enables customers to compete for larger, more lucrative sign and fleet graphics projects by printing individual panels that are up to 35.8 inches wide by 393 inches long. That also saves time and money on installation by enabling customers to install their prints using fewer panels.
