UL 879 Working Group Met June 24-25--- ISA Technical Director Khan Chaired Meeting
Alexandria, VA (June 30, 2003) Muhammad Khan, director of technical resources for the International Sign Association (ISA) led a June 24-25 meeting of the working group reviewing Underwriters Laboratory (UL) standard 879 at UL headquarters in Northbrook, Ill. The group met to complete its review and come to consensus on the proposals presented at the previous meeting in early June meeting. Khan was appointed chair of the group at that meeting.
“The group is continuing its work on the characteristics of blackout paints used in neon signs, ” said Khan. “We expect to complete the review and be prepared to present a proposal to the complete working group for Standards Technical Panel (STP) 48/879 on August 18th.”
The working groups affiliated with STP 48/879 will continue to meet on an as-needed basis, generally by teleconference or by e-mail. The next meeting of the entire STP 48/879 panel is tentatively scheduled for January 2004.
At that time, the group is expected to review proposals from all of the working groups, and to complete its review of the remaining sections of the UL 879 proposal. Khan is a member of the STPs that review UL 879: Standard for Electrical Receptacles for Gas-Tube Signs and UL 48: Standard for Safety of Electric Signs.
