New Roland Inkjets Print On Uncoated Media - EX Series cuts production costs and maintains print quality

Irvine, CA. August 21, 2003 -- Roland DGA Corporation today introduced the SOLJET Pro II EX Series of mild solvent printers and printer/cutters. With blazing print speed and legendary Roland quality, the EX Series prints directly onto uncoated media without any need for special ventilation or environmental equipment.

"Its ability to print brilliant graphics directly onto uncoated materials without harmful fumes or expensive ventilation systems is exactly what the wide format printing industry has been asking for."

The SOLJET Pro II EX uses an integrated media heating system and advanced Eco-SOL INK to print directly onto a wide range of economical media, including both coated and uncoated substrates. With specially designed electronic systems that control internally mounted heat elements under the print head, the EX Series produces brilliant, photorealistic graphics that are water, scratch and UV resistant. Roland has successfully tested Eco-SOL INK to perform with the most popular uncoated media. The new mild solvent ink is also safe to use and virtually odor free.

The EX Series is available in three models - the SC-540EX 54" printer/cutter, SJ-540EX 54" printer and SJ-740EX 74" printer. These heavy-duty inkjets can print up to 300 sqft/hr at 450 dpi for the production of signs, banners, POP displays and vehicle wraps. Designers can also print up to 1440x1440 dpi with variable droplet technology for photorealistic clarity.

The SC-540EX model can automatically contour cut printed graphics without reloading or repositioning and can function as a stand-alone vinyl cutter. To laminate print & cut graphics, simply remove prints, laminate and reload them for precision cutting. The Quadralign(tm) four-point optical registration system - an industry first - automatically realigns the cutting path and compensates for skew and distortion.

Eco-SOL Media (ESM)
Tested and profiled to perform with the SOLJET EX Series, Roland ESM includes a range of competitively priced, uncoated adhesive backed vinyls along with other popular substrates. The list includes glossy calendared vinyl with permanent adhesive, matte calendared vinyl with permanent adhesive, clear calendared vinyl with permanent adhesive, view through vinyl with removable adhesive, calendared wrap vinyl with removable adhesive, translucent calendared vinyl with removable adhesive, flame retardant scrim banner, and blockout scrim banner. In the near future, Roland will grow this lineup even further with other low-cost products, such as paper and film. The EX Series also performs well with all Roland SOLJET Certified Media (SCM); and it is compatible with some PCM, PQM and PGM offerings.

Designed exclusively for the Pro II Series of printers and printer/cutters, RCR is loaded with features that make printing faster and easier. RCR includes simultaneous RIP & Print capability, enhanced color management, contour cutting and several unique layout options. In addition to Postscript jobs, you can print directly from TIFF, JPEG, EPS, PS, PDF 1.4 and DCS 2.0 files. RCR gives users tremendous control over color.
