Roland Adds Schellenberg Award to Pro II Honors: Roland Pro II inkjet also played a key role in the production of Kolofusion & Hilord's winning sublim
Atlanta, GA. October 24, 2003 After winning two DPI Product of the Year awards and sweeping the DIMA Digital Printer Shoot-Out earlier this year, the Roland Pro II Series has now racked up an André Schellenberg Award for an exceptional 70"x23" metallic giclée. The award was presented at the DPI Conference held in conjunction with the SGIA Show.
Called "Maui Heavy Metal," the print depicts a row of colorful classic cars on a cliff with the Pacific Ocean in the background. World-renowned photographer Kornelius Schorle originally captured the scene on a beautiful morning in Kahalui, Maui. Roland production manager Bryan Ballreich printed Schorle's photograph on an experimental metallic-coated paper with the Roland Hi-Fi JET Pro II.
"Kornel's photograph immediately grabbed our attention with its striking composition, vibrant colors, and of course the subject matter," said Ballreich. "Maui Heavy Metal is a perfect marriage of image, printer capability and media. The results could not have been better."
In addition to winning a Schellenberg Award with Ballreich's metallic print, Roland also played a key role in the production of Hilord Chemical Corp. and Kolofusion International Inc.'s (OTC-BB:KOLR) winning sublimation entries. Kolorfusion used a Roland Hi-Fi JET Pro II and Hilord sublimation inks to produce graphics for two Schellenberg winners. "Boss's Bird Cage" won in the Textile category, and "Turtle Sink" won in the Unique Application category.
Originally painted by artist John Korman, "Boss's Bird Cage" graphics on a table and four chairs transform an ordinary workspace into a whimsical designer office. Created by artist Susanne Jansen, "Turtle Sink" graphics on a sink and tile floor create a tropical-looking bathroom.
"Roland large format printers are the workhorse of the industry," said Steve Nagel, President of Kolorfusion. "With our inks and new coatings, they will enable our customers to print digital images on a wide variety of substrates."
