VUTEk® printed graphics sing at 'Plaza Stages' for Tommy Hilfiger

Philadelphia, PA, based photo lab Berry & Homer, has installed a VUTEk® UltraVu® 5330 EC to produce faster, higher quality graphics for the event, exhibition and museum markets. Reaping the benefits of the UltraVu® 5330 EC's eight-color versatility, Berry & Homer is currently printing Tommy Hilfiger sponsored mesh graphics, for the 'Plaza Stages' during this year's summer concert series.

Producing a total of 40 stage graphics (5,985 sq ft) printed on mesh, Berry & Homer is working to tight deadlines printing and installing graphics for each concert venue. Hosted by Clear Channel Entertainment, every concert is staged in a major U.S city, requiring up to five 'Tommy Hilfiger' graphics to be produced for each event. Ranging in size from 10ft x 20ft and 3ft x 30ft, the stage banners had to be printed to a very high standard, to satisfy one of the event's main sponsors and world's leading fashion design houses, Tommy Hilfiger. Featuring local bands playing to over 100,000 people, the stage graphics also had to be highly visible from a distance.

Jim Eby, Berry & Homer's Business Development Manager, comments, 'Due to subtle hues in the Tommy Hilfiger clothing, it was very important to get the colors right. With the UltraVu® 5330 EC and its eight-color capability, we were able to achieve this and represent skin tones with brilliant accuracy.'

Because the graphics could be exposed to high winds and rain, rather than use rigid vinyl, which could become dangerous and unstable, mesh was used to ensure safety and high quality print. Following printing, the mesh graphics were then secured to stages using reinforced nylon webbing and grommets. The graphics for each venue were started one week in advance of each event requiring the UltraVu® 5330 EC to run almost 24 hours a day for over five weeks.

Jim continues, 'The VUTEk® UltraVu® 5330 EC enabled us to produce multiple banners in one pass, essential in meeting each concert deadline. However, despite running the UltraVu® 5330 EC at high speed, we haven't had to compromise on print quality.

'Before purchasing the UltraVu® 5330 EC, we looked at the products on the market and soon realized that the VUTEk® five-meter printer outshone all other competitive offerings. Having spoken with other people who use VUTEk® printers, their positive feedback gave us confidence that this product would be the best buy for us.'

Since installation of the UltraVu® 5330 EC in March 2003, Berry & Homer has already seen an increase in work, and claims that it is now able to beat the competition on speed of job delivery thanks to the UltraVu's high quality and high speed capability. In addition, Berry & Homer says the VUTEk® name is so well respected, that its customers no longer ask for just a banner, they ask for a VUTEk® banner - now a commonly used term for high quality printing.

Jim continues, 'VUTEk® has done a terrific job in training and supporting our staff, helping us to understand our markets and the capability of the printer. We have had no problems with the UltraVu® 5330 EC, and believe that with our new VUTEk® printer we now have a clear competitive advantage.'

Berry & Homer was established in 1898, and is a family run business specializing in backlit displays for tradeshows, exhibitions and museums - with two further offices in Orlando and Lanham. Jim concludes, 'Our goal is to grow the business through sales and acquisitions in both local and nationwide markets. We believe that the VUTEk® UltraVu® 5330 EC will enable us to do this and we look forward to continued success.'
