OPOS 2.0 Introduced- Enhanced Optical Positioning System now standard equipment on SummaSign Pro SL vinyl cutters
Seattle, Washington -- Summa Inc. today announced advancements in its contour cutting alignment system for SummaSign Pro vinyl cutting plotters. OPOS 2.0 has been specifically designed to meet the growing needs of wide format graphics companies. Features have been added to improve productivity and reduce labor when repeatedly cutting the same graphic.
OPOS, which stands for Optical Positioning System, was originally introduced in 1995 as an option on first-generation SummaSign cutters. OPOS alignment is made possible by scanning registration marks on printed images. A sensor, which is mounted on the cutter head, scans each mark. Then the cutter's own internal programming repositions the plot data to adjust for position and rotation. Additional on-board intelligence compensates for scale variations between printers and the cutter by dynamically rescaling the plot data. The end result is a highly automated and accurate means of contour cutting printed vinyl graphics.
OPOS 2.0 has been enhanced to increase workflow productivity when die cutting repeating images. "With our latest OPOS technology, our customers are able to die cut larger quantities without resending their plot data to the cutter," states Gerard Verdonck, Summa bvba operations manager and OPOS system architect. "OPOS is now able to excel in screen printing workflows by accurately die cutting short or long run jobs with the Load Repetitive Sheet function. In digital printing workflows, the Load Repetitive Roll function automates longer print runs. Both functions dramatically reduce operator intervention, while maintaining the same pinpoint accuracy OPOS provides when die cutting individual graphics."
OPOS 2.0 is standard equipment on all new SummaSign Pro SL vinyl cutting plotters and is backward compatible with earlier model SummaSign Pro cutters. Users of earlier version OPOS systems can upgrade their SummaSign Pro firmware to OPOS 2.0 standards via a free download.
