Osram Sylvania Showcases Innovative Signage And Display Lighting Solutions At International Sign Expo 2004
ORLANDO, FL -- Lighting leaders OSRAM SYLVANIA and OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will showcase a number of exceptional lighting products and services, as well as introduce PROMINENCETM, OSRAM SYLVANIA’s newest LED contour lighting innovation, at the 58th Annual International Sign Expo (ISA), April 14 -17, 2004. The company continues to provide a complete range of products and services for every aspect of sign and display lighting.

PROMINENCE
PROMINENCE, OSRAM SYLVANIA’s newest complete contour lighting solution, is ideally suited for exterior and interior edge or border lighting. Delivering warm, rich light in a spectrum of colors matched to a customer’s signature corporate brand, PROMINENCE uses 75 percent less energy than conventional signage lighting and is practically maintenance free for up to 10 years. Whether it’s turned on or off, PROMINENCE’s environmentally friendly tubing maintains its color and aesthetic appeal 24 hours a day. PROMINENCE features solid-state LEDs enclosed in polycarbonate tubing that is virtually unbreakable and cool to the touch.
Backed by SYLVANIA LIGHTING SERVICES, PROMINENCE can be easily attached directly to a structure or to brackets using a unique daisy chain configuration and clip system. The PROMINENCE low-voltage power supply contains a patented safety circuit that immediately shuts down the system if a fault is detected. After a diagnostic process and a resolution of the problem, the PROMINENCE system automatically restarts itself.
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors LED Lighting Solutions
A pioneer and leader in the development of low-voltage solid-state lighting, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors offers a number of all-in-one LED systems for the signage industry. The LEDs used within the various lighting systems provide a superb, aesthetic, uniform performance and long life that result in energy savings and lower maintenance costs among a variety of other advantages. At ISA, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will present:
- Channel letter systems with BACKlight LED Systems and Optotronic power supplies. OSRAM LED lighting solutions are well suited for illuminating backlit channel letters and halo lit signs commonly used in retail applications. The LED modules fit easily within the contours and curves typical to channel signs and can be placed on contoured substrates to suit even the most elaborate sign lettering. The modules are evenly coated for protection from condensation and dirt. They also contain an exclusive current regulating chip that sends a consistent current to each LED to achieve uniform color and light output. This is an especially distinguishing feature of OSRAM’s most popular red LEDs, which have a long life of 100,000 hours.
- OSRAM LINEARlight Colormix LED Dimmable Systems. The LINEARlight Colormix module presented in conjunction with OSRAM’s OPTOTRONIC® LED power supply (Class 2 Damp rated) and OPTOTRONIC OTDIM electronically stabilized dimming module is OSRAM’s newest and most innovative all-in-one system to provide the end-user with dynamic control of millions of colors in retail and entertainment backlighting signage applications. The system inspires users to manipulate the output of three chips one red, one blue and one green inside each LED to paint a unique sign in colored lights. Generating little heat during continuous operation, each 18 inch module consists of 30 surface-mounted LEDs that can be subdivided into smaller LED units or expanded to include as many as 10 modules using a single feed. OSRAM’s LINEARlight Colormix Flex, available in 12-foot rolls, and operated by a single power supply, offers end-users the ultimate in flexible assembly. OSRAM’s LINEARlight Colormix system offers a bountiful palette of limitless dynamically changing colors for the sign artist.
- OSRAM Super Red and Amber LEDs. Recognizing that red is the “bread and butter” color of the sign industry, OSRAM offers a wide choice of red shades. OSRAM’s super red (633 nanometer) LED, which fits all ‘ruby red’ applications, and amber red (617 nanometer) LED, which offer the best value are among the most popular and energy efficient lighting solutions for the signage industry. OSRAM’s orange (610 nanometer) LEDs and yellow (587 nanometer) LEDs complete the company’s extensive color offerings. The LEDs are mounted on thermally and optically optimized boards and provide a 120 degree viewing angle to achieve uniform surface brightness, eliminate any hot spots and offer an energy savings of 40 to 75 percent for equivalent surface brightness over neon.
OSRAM PLANON®
The innovative excimer discharge flat panel lamps are ideal for display applications where reliability, low maintenance and thinness are critical. Less than 10 millimeters (.3 inch) thick, the PLANON family of mercury-free products offers uniform brightness, excellent lumen maintenance and an extremely long life lasting up to 100,000 hours. The lamps retain their brightness over a wide temperature range of -22 F to 185 F and are available in lamp diagonals from 10.4 inches to 21.3 inches.
OSRAM LINEX®
OSRAM’s mercury-free LINEX fluorescent lamp systems can be used for backlighting and edge lighting signage even in the most extreme temperature environments and for applications where rapid lamp switching and consistent color are required. The linear excimer lamp systems feature a triphosphor coating and produce intense, high color rendering of white light at an illuminance of up to 80,000 lux at an 8 millimeter distance from its aperture. When operated in the patented high frequency pulsed mode by OSRAM SYLVANIA’s QUICKTRONIC® electronic power supply, the lamp’s xenon gas discharge produces nearly instant full light output and is capable of being switched on and off repeatedly as hot restrike is not an issue.
Without mercury in the discharge stream, the phosphor and glass of the OSRAM LINEX lamp will not darken over time and will yield extremely stable color throughout the life of a lamp. OSRAM LINEX lamps also comply with Federal TCLP tests. The lamp is extremely robust due to interior electrodes that are protected against vibration and damage from the gas discharge.
Electroluminescent (EL) and Other Phosphors for Signage
As the world’s largest manufacturer of encapsulated EL phosphors, OSRAM SYLVANIA provides EL lamp manufacturers with a wide range of powders to meet specific color, brightness and life requirements for lamps used to backlight flat, flexible signs. Neon
