2004 Environmental Recognition Winners Cited by SGIA

FAIRFAX, VA -- The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association has announced the recipients of its 2004 Environmental Recognition Awards Program: Cellotape, Inc. (Fremont, CA), Classic Stripes (Vasai, India), Gillespie Graphics (Wilsonville, OR), and Marabuwerke GmbH & Co. KG (Tamm, Germany).

Now in its fourth year, SGIA’s Environmental Recognition Program acknowledges the role environmental issues play in today’s business world.

According to Marci Kinter, the Association’s Vice President for Government Affairs, “the primary objective of this program is to recognize SGIA members that have successfully adopted and implemented Environmental Management Systems.”

This year, SGIA recognizes four companies … three of which have been honored in past years, as well:

  • Cellotape, Inc. — a manufacturer of custom labels, nameplates and overlays utilizing screen printing, flexographic and digital imaging processes — was previously recognized in 2003 and 2002. The company continues its environmental efforts, focusing on their art photo processing area as well as integration of a water filtration process.
  • Classic Stripes — a producer of automotive decals, domed labels for white goods, self-adhesive PVC stickers and dash board trims — also was recognized in 2003. In 2004, Classic Stripes continues its investigation into alternative cleaning solvents for use in its doming department.
  • Gillespie Graphics — specializing in the POP, OEM and fleet graphics market — is continuing its focus on the proper disposal of expired ink products, as well as improving the driving habits of its sales associates. Gillespie was a 2003 award recipient, too.
  • Marabuwerke is being hailed for its work in minimizing environmental risks during the production process. Marabuwerke produces water-based and UV inks for the digital market.

“All four companies are congratulated for their ongoing dedication to improving their environmental footprint,” said Ms. Kinter.
