Sign Representatives From 30 Countries Network At ISA’S Global Sign Forum
Alexandria, VA -- The International Sign Association (ISA) brought together sign professionals from 30 countries at the association’s Global Sign Forum, held April 16 during International Sign Expo 2004 in Orlando, Fla. Dozens of international representatives from regions that included Asia, Europe, Africa and South and Central America gathered and exchanged information and opinions on the issues and problems common to the sign industry around the world, in particular the Dark Skies movement.
“Dark Skies is an issue that impacts the sign industry globally,” said John Johnson, an ISA consultant who helped organize the forum. Dark Skies is an environmental movement that supports restricting outdoor illuminated signs under the guise of eliminating so-called light pollution. “What came out of the forum is that the Italian sign industry apparently has had some success in battling Dark Skies in that country,” Johnson said. “It’s a problem in so many places, including North America, so learning what other countries are doing about it is important.”
In addition to its formal program, the forum gave attendees a chance to network with their counterparts in other countries. “They shared their common problems and concerns about the industry,” Johnson said. “There was a good exchange of information. The forum really opened the lines of communications.”
About 20 percent of ISA’s member companies come from countries outside of North America, he added. .”
ISA is a 2,200 member organization composed of manufacturers, users, and suppliers of on-premise signs and sign products produced by more than 400,000 employees in all 50 states and 69 foreign countries. ISA exists to support, promote, and improve the $30 billion-a-year sign industry, which sustains the nation’s nearly $3 trillion-a-year retail industry.
