‘Dr. Print’ Answers Garment Decorating Questions
FAIRFAX, VA—Well-known industry consultant Charlie Taublieb answers the most-frequently asked questions he hears about textile decorating on “Ask Dr. Print,” the newest addition to the Garment Decorators Resource Center online at SGIA.org.
Visitors to Charlie’s page on SGIA.org will learn the techniques required for printing with specialty inks and creating special effect prints on garments and textiles.
Over a dozen questions dealing with high-density inks already are probed here; i.e.: What are high-density inks? Which mesh and tension should be used? How is capillary film applied? Does one need any special exposure equipment?
Similarly, information about decorative particle printing is posted: How are caviar beads and decorative particles applied to textiles? What sizes and shapes do these particles come in? What kind of adhesive is used—and where does one get it? Are there any special instructions for printing?
If an answer isn’t already posted within the variety of Frequently Asked Questions, visitors are encouraged to “Ask Dr. Print a Question” directly by clicking on the e-mail link (askdrprint@sgia.org).
Taublieb has been an industry consultant for more than 20 years and has worked in garment printing shops throughout the U.S. and abroad. He’s written numerous articles for the trade press and has conducted workshops and seminars at the annual SGIA and Imprinted Sportswear shows. He is also lead instructor for the Screen Printing Technical Foundation’s Specialty Inks: Enhance Your Textile Prints workshop.
