Nur Macroprinters And Alcan Composites USA Conduct Digital Print To Rigid Substrate Demonstrations At SGIA ’04
Minneapolis, MN -- NUR Macroprinters Ltd. and Alcan Composites USA joined forces here today at SGIA ’04, the Specialty Printing and Imaging Technology Show sponsored by Specialty Graphic Imaging Association, to conduct live demonstrations at NUR Macroprinters' Booth No. 3407 of the vivid results that can be achieved when images are digitally direct printed by the new NUR Tempo™ wide-format flatbed inkjet press onto Gatorfoam® and Gatorplast® graphic display boards.
“We’ve conducted independent tests using the NUR Tempo flatbed press to digitally direct print images on both Gatorfoam and Gatorplast and have achieved great ink adhesion,” said Geva Barash, vice president, sales and marketing, of Moonachie, N.J.-based NUR Macroprinters. “Both Gatorfoam and Gatorplast print beautifully with the NUR Tempo, and we’re eager to expand our testing of Alcan Composites’ rigid substrates.”
“In response to the continued rapid growth of the wide-format digital direct-print market, Alcan Composites USA has partnered with flatbed press manufacturers such as NUR Macroprinters to ensure that our graphic display boards meet specifications for technologically advanced equipment such as the NUR Tempo,” said Michael E. McKitrick, product manager of St. Louis-based Alcan Composites USA, which is exhibiting at Booth No. 1047 at SGIA ’04. “In addition to Gatorfoam and Gatorplast, Sintra®, Dibond® and JetMount® board will be test printed with the NUR Tempo.”
McKitrick said Alcan Composites is collaborating with NUR Macroprinters on a soon-to-announced program to provide sample graphic display boards with new purchases of the NUR Tempo.
“The ability to digitally direct print images onto rigid substrates saving time, materials and production steps continues to drive our market,” said Barash. “We’re building our future on it. That’s why we introduced the NUR Tempo flatbed press.”
About the NUR Tempo flatbed inkjet press:
The NUR Tempo series printers are flatbed wide-format inkjet production presses that provide an excellent alternative to conventional graphics screen-printing on short-and medium-run jobs. The NUR Tempo digital presses use UV-curable inks to produce high-quality rigid display graphics with no need for the extra finishing steps of mounting and lamination. The series includes a choice of four- or eight-color models, available in two different productivity levels.
About Gatorfoam, Gatorplast, JetMount, Sintra and Dibond graphic display boards:
Gatorfoam consists of extruded polystyrene foam bonded between two layers of wood-fiber veneer. The white Gatorfoam line recently has been enhanced with dramatically brighter facers that produce eye-popping graphics in both direct digital printing and screen-printing operations. Gatorfoam is available in standard 48-inch by 96-inch and 60-inch by 120-inch sheets in a wide range of thicknesses ranging from 3/16 inches to 2 inches.
Gatorplast is an extruded polystyrene foam board bonded between two layers of high-impact polystyrene cap sheets. Gatorplast may be direct digitally printed and screen-printed. Vinyl lettering also may be applied and repositioned. Gatorplast is available in standard 48-inch by 96-inch sheets in 3/16-inch and ½-inch thicknesses.
JetMount, a Fome-Cor® specialty product, consists of denser extruded polystyrene foam bonded between clay-coated paper liners. JetMount offers increased rigidity and warp resistance for demanding mounting jobs and direct digital printing and screen-printing applications. JetMount is available in the ¼-inch thickness in standard 48-inch by 96-inch and 60-inch by 96-inch sheets.
Sintra is a lightweight yet rigid board of moderately expanded closed-cell PVC extruded in a homogenous sheet with a low-gloss matte finish that offers superior dent and scratch resistance. Sintra may be direct digitally printed and screen-printed. Sintra is available in a wide range of sheet thicknesses from 1 mm to 13 mm and in standard sizes ranging from 4-by-8 feet to 2M-by-10 feet sheets.
Dibond is an aluminum composite material made of two pre-painted sheets of .012-inch aluminum with a solid polyethylene core. Dibond’s superior surface protects expensive digital and screen-printed graphics. It may be direct digitally printed and screen-printed. Dibond is available in 2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm thicknesses in standard sizes ranging from 4-by-8 feet to 5-by-10 feet sheets.
