Corel Official Sponsor of Sign Design Gallery at International Sign Expo 2005 in Las Vegas

Corel Training Partner to Present ‘Producing Signage with CorelDRAW’ Session at the Expo

Ottawa, Canada - Corel Corporation is the official sponsor of this year’s Sign Design Gallery at the International Sign Expo 2005 taking place at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas from March 30 to April 2, 2005. The Sign Design Gallery will showcase this year’s winners of both the ISA Sign Design Competition and the Signs of the Times Magazine/International Sign Association (ISA) International Sign Competition. Winners for both contests will be announced at the Expo on Saturday, April 2 at 9:00 a.m. outside of the exhibit hall.

Hosted by the ISA and Signs of the Times Magazine, the International Sign Competition received hundreds of entries from companies around the world, ranging from environmental graphic design firms to individual sign makers. Submissions are judged on the basis of originality (innovative design and material use), appearance (overall attractiveness), and theme (how well the sign conveys the nature and image of the business). Winners of the International Sign Competition will be featured in the April 2005 issue of Signs of the Times.

In addition, the Corel-sponsored gallery will also profile the winners of the ISA’s Sign Design Competition. The Sign Design Competition is a separate contest that includes both a professional and a junior category (for students in the graphics, design, and visual-communications fields). Participants were provided information regarding a common fictitious customer and were asked to create mock-up designs and conceptual sign renderings for evaluation against submissions from their peers.

Expo attendees are also invited to join Craig Mertens from Digital Art Solutions to learn about the benefits CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 offers sign makers at the session, “Producing Signage with CorelDRAW” on April 2 from 1:00 - 3:00. Mr. Mertens is a CorelDRAW certified trainer and is integrally involved in the development of CorelDRAW add-on software and production-ready digital art.
