UK Software to Extend Color Management

The Fiery System 6 meets the needs and anticipates the requirements of graphic arts professionals "like nothing they'd ever seen."

EFI, a UK based company, launched a software that will allow the delivery of superior color on digital color presses, extending the features on color management, proofing, and workflow control, provided by its predecessor.

The Premium Edition of the Fiery graphics arts package is claimed by the developers as part of EFI's next-generation system software, which offers more integrated functions than any other color proofing and control tools software.

According to EFI, the Fiery System 6 meets the needs and anticipates the requirements of graphic arts professionals "like nothing they'd ever seen."

"Now with the Premium Edition, we can empower graphic artists with significant, sophisticated enhancements as well as tremendous efficiency gains…by offering customers the most comprehensive, end to end solutions," relates EFI's vice president of server products.

Aside from the look and feel of the Command Workstation user interface, the new Premium Edition package includes a wonderful feature such as the Imageviewer that allows users to preview raster files with local and remote soft-proofing and color editing. This particular feature includes real-time pixel level zoom, which according to developers, help to create a "rasterized job before it is committed to the print device."

Here are some of the new features of the Premium Edition Graphic Arts package:

> Paper Simulation Editor that lets users get the most accurate match between the original document and the printed output. This allows for better management of the client's expectation of the proof.

> Halftone Simulation feature allows users to print halftone mode, and define custom screening functions.

Combined with the Paper Simulation feature, this feature can provide users with a productive and cost-effective solution for halftone proofing in a contone printer device. Hence, the Halftone Simulation feature has the ability to get a perfect match between the original and the printed output.

> Other features include Configurable Auto Trapping, a Control Bar for job information and user selected color bars, the Postflight diagnostic tool, and Progressives for diagnostic and preview tool.

In addition, the Fiery Premium Edition provides users the ability to use every combination of CMYK "to show how images are composed". This allows users to determine the source of any concerns according to EFI.

"Color matching with substitute color reproduces named and custom colors (both RGB and CMYK) and modifies spot color values to achieve color matching," adds EFI.

Moreover, the inclusion of Hot Folders provides an automatic workflow that eliminates duplication of tasks such as configuring multiple jobs. The Hot Folders also lets users to submit jobs in their native file formats even without opening the native application.
