SGIA Workshop Makes Advanced Impact in Portland

Fairfax, Virginia — Hands-on learning was the focus at SGIA's Advanced Garment Decorating workshop in Portland, Oregon, last week. Charlie Taublieb and artists John Konneker and Jim Popp led the October 28-29 session, which was held at Latitudes and attracted attendees from as far as California, North Dakota, Vancouver and Amsterdam.

Pre-Press & On-Press & On the Mark
The two-day session fell neatly into two major topic areas: pre-press (Konneker and Popp) and on-press (Taublieb). SGIA Vice President, Technical Services, Johnny Shell, said coverage of index separations, ICC color profiles for garments and screen making for special effect inks were a few of the more popular discussions.

"I learned so much about all the small details that make such a big difference," an attendee wrote in the end-of-session evaluation.

The Take-Away: Added Productivity
The goal of the workshop: providing tools to increase productivity and efficiency while reducing re-do's and downtime. With state-of-the-art Latitudes providing the facility for hands-on experience, that's exactly what participants took home. Industry veteran Latitudes has a reputation for exceptional product quality, on-time delivery and excellent customer service. Latitudes has an excellent industry reputation particularly for multi-color printing and specialty ink applications, creativity and unique approaches to challenging opportunities.

"The information reinforced what we are doing and gave me some tools to implement for better productivity and quality," said one attendee.

Just as important was hands-on work in an industry-leading shop.

"Attendees experienced a state-of-the-facility, spoke with its employees and saw how things are done there," Shell said. "That plus the chance to meet industry pioneers and the peer-to-peer networking the session allowed were very valuable." SGIA plans four similar workshops in 2006. Specific dates and locations to be determined.
