TotallyPhotos.com: New Perspectives

London - Totally Photos Ltd has launched a new website: http://www.totallyphotos.com to provide stock photography with a different flavour. Unlike the major stock agencies, the focus of this site will be the creative amateur photographer and the smaller design agency. The trend in the market is away from idealised images, and towards more realistic photos of real people and situations. This is where Totally Photos aims to be different from the existing picture libraries, by encouraging the varied talent now becoming available with the spread of lower priced, professional quality digital equipment and imaging software.

The site began collecting images in August 2005 and so far has over 10,000 available. Contributing photographers come from across the globe with portfolios ranging from a single photo to several hundred. This varied source of photos is aimed at an increasingly varied market ­ from in-house presentations to local business start-ups ­ often with design carried out by small home-based businesses or the end user themselves. With a view to this marketplace, TotallyPhotos is based on simple 'royalty-free' licensing, with fixed prices for all images only dependant on image size. The prices are kept low as the site is looking to promote and encourage new talent.

Unlike traditional agencies, any photographer can contribute ­ there is no need for a proven, extensive portfolio ­ each image is judged on its own merits. As Steve Jones the director of Totally Photos Ltd explains "Although we insist on high-quality images, we do not enforce particular stylistic requirements. Designers are after new looks, and that's what we're aiming to provide. It's up to the purchaser rather than us to choose which style meets their needs."

The images are indexed by the photographers themselves ­ giving the photo purchasers the benefit of being able to use a variety of perspectives during their image search. Photographs of pigs may be indexed by one photographer as 'Dirty', by another as 'Cute' and by a third as 'Dinner'. A designer searching for 'Cute' may never have thought of 'Pig', however one of the photographers has taken this view, which may then give the purchaser the creative inspiration they were after. This, along with a free 'image request service' is aiming to make designers' lives just a little easier.

The goal of TotallyPhotos.com is to let creative designers tap into the potential of the creative amateur photographer. With most current image libraries either owned by large corporations, or looking very much alike, a different perspective is well overdue.

Totally Photos Limited is a UK based company formed in 2003 which runs an internet digital image library. It has contributing photographers from around the world and sells to varied markets including magazines, advertising, corporate and private individuals.
