ISA Announces 2006 Sign Design Competition Winners

Alexandria, VA – The International Sign Association (ISA) proudly announces the winners of its annual Sign Design Competition. Seven entrants placed in the contest, which accepts sign renderings from individuals from around the world. This year’s four Professional Division winners are:

  • First Place - Darius Reyes, Pattison Sign Group
  • Second Place - Marla Hanson, Pattison Sign Group
  • Third Place - Jeff Miller, Red Dwarf Graphx
  • Merit - Greg Moerner, Poblocki Sign Company
ISA also awarded first, second, and third place prizes in the competition’s Junior Division, which is open to students enrolled at vocational, technical and high schools, colleges and universities, and who are sponsored by an ISA member company. Winners of the Junior Division are all students from Perry Technical Institute, sponsored by Ramsay Signs, Inc., and are as follows:
  • First Place - Shawn Hayden
  • Second Place - Ty Hastings
  • Third Place - Michael Malaska
The panel of judges was made up of two sign industry professionals, one graphic designer, and one ISA staff member. The judging for this year’s contest was held December 13 at ISA’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA. The judges were: Amy Cade, Freelance Graphic Designer, Jeannine Curtin, ISA Marketing Manager, Owen Taylor, Acorn Signs General Manager, and Teresa M. Young, SignBiz President & CEO.

Contestants were asked to design signage for the 61st Annual ISA International Sign Expo, the world’s largest sign show, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2007. As a guideline to inspire their designs, contestants were given the show’s theme, “The Right People. The Right Product. The Right Place.” Judges used a 10-point scale for a total of 50 points and evaluated entries based on inventiveness, creative use of materials and technology, practical use of the design, and professional quality and appearance.

“ISA’s annual Sign Design Competition is a great way to showcase the extraordinary talent that exists among professionals in the sign industry,” said Wayne Burton, Sign Design Subcommittee Chairman. “In addition, the Junior Division recognizes the next generation of sign industry players’ talents.”

Winners will be presented with awards at ISA’s 60th Annual ISA International Sign Expo, in Orlando, Florida, April 5-8, 2006. For more information on the ISA International Sign Expo, visit www.signexpo.org.

The 2006 Sign Design Competition was ISA’s 59th annual. ISA expects to announce in June specifications for next year’s contest. For more information on the ISA Sign Design Competition, contact ISA at (703) 836-4012 or www.signs.org.
