ISA Awards Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award To Dick Strauss

Alexandria, VA - The International Sign Association (ISA) awarded the 2006 Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award posthumously to Dick Strauss. His son, Michael accepted the award at the ISA International Sign Expo in Orlando, Fla.

Each year, ISA presents the Distinguished Service Award to an ISA member who demonstrates outstanding dedication and service to the association. Award recipients are sign professionals who have made significant and substantial contributions to the on-premise sign industry over the years.

“When I got the phone call from ISA and learned what this award was about, I was really moved,” said Michael Strauss, who followed his father and grandfather into the sign industry. “If he were here, my dad would tell you that he really loved the people in this industry. He loved getting up and coming to work every day.”

Dick Strauss, who was raised in the sign industry, purchased Bevelite in 1970, then, in 1973 purchase Adler Silhouette Letter Company, to form Bevelite-Adler, one of the premier suppliers in the sign, screen printing, and graphics business.

“Dick had strong ties to his family and his community, and was actively involved in both,” said ISA Chairman Thomas L. Cummings III, as he presented the award at the Expo’s keynote luncheon. “He was admired by many across the world family, friends, employees and business associates.”

“We will long remember his unwavering support of our association and his commitment to the industry,” said Cummings. “On days you felt down, he’d lift you up. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a sincere interest in bettering the lives of his friends.”

ISA is a 1,900 member organization composed of manufacturers, users, and suppliers of on-premise signs and sign products produced by more than 400,000 employees in all 50 states and 69 foreign countries. ISA exists to support, promote, and improve the $30 billion-a-year sign industry, which sustains the nation’s nearly $3 trillion-a-year retail industry.
