Bit Selection Vs. Material Selection
It is always best to choose a bit with a cutting edge length that most closely matches the thickness of the material to be cut. It is also important to make sure that the cutting edge length is at least as long as the thickness of the material. This will minimize vibration, produce a better finish, and result in longer cutter life. Select the shortest bit possible for optimum cutting performance. Additionally, be sure that the workpiece is secured well. A rigid set-up of the workpiece will allow faster speeds, better edge finishes, and longer cutter life.
