Cutting Acrylic without chipping edges.
I have found that a laminate trimmer (small router made specifically for trimming laminate counter tops) works best for cutting acrylic. Costs about $100. You can buy a sheet of inexpensive insulation foam at Home Depot, which you lay under your sheet of acrylic. Clamp a straight edge on top of the acrylic for your guide and run your trimmer against that straight edge for acuracy. Always cut left to right and set your 1/8" straight bit just deep enough to slightly cut into the foam sheet. Make sure to account for the distance (usually 2") between the router bit and your straight edge when marking your line!
