Stop replacing that nylon cut plate.
Trying to describe this without a photo is a little hard, but I'll try. If you are like me, you shreek whenever your plotter blade runs off the vinyl and places another injury in that expensive nylon/graphite/or whatever base plate they put on your graphics plotter. Mine cost me $16.00 to replace and it seems like as soon as I replace it, it's cut again.
I sell reflective safety products at my online motorcycle decals and boat lettering fabrication. I went thru our stock to find some kind of material I could layer over the cutting base so that a replaceable material could be used rather than $16.00 accidents all the time. What I found was nothing worked, it was all too soft to use as a base under the cutting blade. Well... All but one material. DOT Approved Conspicuity tape - 2" wide could be cut (for my machine) into 3 strips. Just lay this on top of the cutting plate and when you goof up.. it costs you .50 cents. to replace it.
Have a look at this site:

A 5 foot section will make 6 protection strips. Just slit this 2" wide material into 3 strips. If you have a 24" cutter, you have 6 protection strips. Okay.. so it's more like $1.00 each mistake.. But compare that to your replacement costs for the base and you are ahead of the game easily.
